Dickens Unplugged Gets Unplugged

Dickens Unplugged

Dickens Unplugged, a musical comedy exploring highlights of Dicken's classic stories, has posted early closing notices for June 2008. The ill-fated show from the quill of Adam Long, the man behind The Reduced Shakespeare Company, only managed a five week run at the Comedy Theatre before low ticket sales prompted the closure.

A statement to the press says, "The producers wish to thank the talented cast, creative team and company for all their hard work and dedication to this production. Despite fantastic performances and enthusiastic audiences the ticket sales have not been sufficient and the producers have had to make the difficult decision to close the show."

It seems a shame that the show has to close, especially considering the success of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) but after exceptionally mixed reviews including The Times scathingly referring to the show as "a glum recognition of the depths to which comedy can sink" it is little wonder that Writer/director Adam Long chose to bow out gracefully. The question now is, just what will be taking Dickens Unplugged's place at the Comedy Theatre.
