Popular West End Shows Extend

Whilst this week has seen three big shows closing their doors to the public, two of the scene's greater shows have announced plans to extend their booking period into 2009.

Lion King

Disney's The Lion King has added three months to its schedule and will continue to show performances up until its closure on 4th January. The show which has been delighting audiences at the Lyceum Theatre since 1999 has won much critical acclaim and features three original songs written by Elton John and Tim Rice which don't appear in the 1994 film.

We Will Rock You

Ben Elton's We Will Rock You has also announced plans to extend. The show is now taking bookings up until the 3rd October 2009, more than seven years after its opening in 2002. Critics largely slammed the production when it first opened, but the ever important public opinion, combined with an abundance of bookings meant that the West End's most rocking show simply must go on.

In other news, Gone With the Wind announced that it will be closing early after poor reviews from the outset.
